Summer storage for winter flood control

The flood control barriers at the head of what used to be the Hamburg free harbor were recently pulled down and put into storage. During the fall and winter season, additional metal elements are put up to strengthen the permanently installed flood control system. Come spring, the elements at the head of the barrier are removed to make way for the breathtaking view of the Hamburg skyline and the Elbphilharmonie.

Container noise barrier in Hamburg’s “Schanzenviertel”

The reason for this unusual application was, for a change, not a building site. For a whole two and a half weeks, the parking lot by the west entrance of the exhibition center was transformed into an open-air oasis. At the festival called “45Hertz” a colorful mixture of different music genres was being played. They all had the same goal: to get the masses dancing under the famous Hamburg Television Tower. Luckily, the weather was on its best behavior. And so, more than 10,000 visitors found their way into the “Schanze”.

For this year’s Intermodal ASIA, the management team from iCON Hamburg traveled to China for the first time. While we were there, we also visited container manufacturers in Taichang and Nantong and met with old and new acquaintances. Being close to our suppliers is incredibly important for future collaborations and the high quality of our products.

Side Door Container at the LogiMAT 2018

The 20’ side door container in the center of attention If you compare all the different logistics trade fairs in Germany, one definitely stands out. The LogiMAT, the most important trade show for intralogistics solutions and process management worldwide, took place for the 16th time this year. The main topics were digitization, big data and industry 4.0. And, alongside SE-LogCon, iCON Container made its debut as an exhibitor with a 20’ side door container.
