Container noise barrier in Hamburg’s “Schanzenviertel”

The reason for this unusual application was, for a change, not a building site. For a whole two and a half weeks, the parking lot by the west entrance of the exhibition center was transformed into an open-air oasis. At the festival called “45Hertz” a colorful mixture of different music genres was being played. They all had the same goal: to get the masses dancing under the famous Hamburg Television Tower. Luckily, the weather was on its best behavior. And so, more than 10,000 visitors found their way into the “Schanze”.

For this year’s Intermodal ASIA, the management team from iCON Hamburg traveled to China for the first time. While we were there, we also visited container manufacturers in Taichang and Nantong and met with old and new acquaintances. Being close to our suppliers is incredibly important for future collaborations and the high quality of our products.

Side Door Container at the LogiMAT 2018

The LogiMAT, the most important trade show for intralogistics solutions and process management worldwide, took place for the 16th time this year. iCON Container in “Down Under”

Early years in Hamburg Let me introduce Gordon Fullard, a long term company friend and for almost two years now the face of iCON International Container Services in “Down Under”. While Gordon is originally from Great Britain he moved to Hamburg 37 years ago. Before he came to Germany he had worked as a field surveyor and had never seen a container. In Hamburg he needed to find a job and a job listing in the “Hamburger Abendblatt” quoted that a shipping company needed someone with excellent English skills. While Gordon didn’t speak any German yet, he had just found his new position as a container controller.

A floating container right in front of the iCON office

When you live and work in Hamburg, a container is not an unusual sight. You see them on the streets, on ships on the river Elbe, and along construction sites and warehouses. An everyday sight that still manages to surprise and wow, is the view of the opposite riverbank and the harbor from the Landungsbrücken. There, units are piled up to huge stacks. Whether already loaded or still on the quay, containers are everywhere.
