The portable 3D printer container

In the beginning of this year, we were contacted by Chris and Robin, two students from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle. They were studying Industrial Design and as part of their final project wanted to construct a large-scale autonomous 3D printer to make – or print – different objects for the end-user. As they were looking for a space large enough to house such a project, they came up with the simple but genius idea to use a container. Does the corona epidemic affect container prices?

The effect the corona epidemic has on the output of Chinese factories and the export of goods from China into other parts of the world is undeniable. The beginning of a noticeable shortage of new and used shipping containers is to be expected in the second half of 2020. This will lead to container prices increasing. Summer storage for winter flood control

The flood control barriers at the head of what used to be the Hamburg free harbor were recently pulled down and put into storage. During the fall and winter season, additional metal elements are put up to strengthen the permanently installed flood control system. Come spring, the elements at the head of the barrier are removed to make way for the breathtaking view of the Hamburg skyline and the Elbphilharmonie.

Container noise barrier in Hamburg’s “Schanzenviertel”

The reason for this unusual application was, for a change, not a building site. For a whole two and a half weeks, the parking lot by the west entrance of the exhibition center was transformed into an open-air oasis. At the festival called “45Hertz” a colorful mixture of different music genres was being played. They all had the same goal: to get the masses dancing under the famous Hamburg Television Tower. Luckily, the weather was on its best behavior. And so, more than 10,000 visitors found their way into the “Schanze”.

iCON visits China, home of the containers.

For this year’s Intermodal ASIA, the management team from iCON Hamburg traveled to China for the first time. While we were there, we also visited container manufacturers in Taichang and Nantong and met with old and new acquaintances. Being close to our suppliers is incredibly important for future collaborations and the high quality of our products.
