iCON Container supports the youth department of the Blankeneser Segel Club - BSC Hamburg

When iCON Int. Container GmbH learnt that the successful youth department of the Blankeneser Segel Club e.V. von 1898 urgently needed new storage facilities for their Opti sails, an idea was quickly born; the masts of the small, manoeuvrable sailing boats for young people up to the age of 15 fit into a 10' HC (High Cube) container when stood upright. After a brief consultation with BSC youth chairman Sören Sörensen, it was decided that a light grey 10' HC container would be given to the club free of charge.

BSC - Traditional sailing club on the Elbe

The BSC was founded in 1898 as the first sailing club based directly on the Elbe. With its 950 members, the club is one of the largest and most important sailing clubs in Germany. The sailing area on the Elbe is very demanding, as in addition to recreational captains, "big ships" of the commercial shipping industry with container giants with a total capacity of up to 24,000 TEU sail here every day. The tides of the nearby North Sea ensure constantly changing current conditions. Anyone who learns to sail in this environment goes through a special school.

Youth work is a top priority at the BSC

The youth section of the BSC does highly committed work with heart and passion. It gives young people access to this nature-loving sport, whether in the leisure sector or in the promotion of talent for competitive sport. In addition to theoretical and practical training, the organisation offers a wide range of activities such as excursions, camps and regattas.

The 10' High Cube container for sail storage

The 10' HC container with an internal height of 270 cm offers sufficient space for the 235 cm long masts of the small Optimists. The space at the top allows the masts to be placed in and lifted out of a specially made holder. The bracket was developed and manufactured by one of the members. With a footprint of 7.3 square metres, the Mini Container fits perfectly into the limited space available. At the same time, the small container offers great protection for the high-quality equipment. During storm surges and the associated extremely high water levels, everything inside the container remains dry. "We've even had a container float away," says Youth Chairman Sören Sörensen when the high water helped the container, which was already positioned on high plinths, to float. "We were able to salvage the container a few metres away, and neither the container nor its contents were damaged." Designed for heavy-duty use on the high seas, a container can withstand many external influences and protects everything inside it safely and reliably, even on land. The special lockbox on the container doors provides maximum protection against unauthorised access.

The iCON mini containers

The mini container section of the iCON range is also robust, solid, durable and sustainable. The smallest of the bunch is the 6' DV container, which with its 3.6 square metres and an external height of 192 cm also fits into small niches. The medium size is the 8' DV container, which has a base area of 5.3 square metres and an external height of 226 cm. The big brother is the 10' DV container: base area 7.3 square metres and 259 cm high on the outside in the standard version, 30 cm higher again in the high cube version. Have we piqued your interest?
