Reffen - a street food market in Copenhagen

28.11.2023

The street food market Reffen was founded in May 2018 and celebrated its 5th anniversary this year. It is located in Copenhagen's Refshaleoen industrial area and currently measures around 6,000 square meters. From the market you have a perfect view of the port of Copenhagen.

A small container village

In tune with the view of the harbor, Reffen consists almost exclusively of converted sea containers. To this end, many discarded and damaged containers were converted, restored and decorated with graffiti in 2018. In most cases, these were 20ft standard containers or 10ft containers. This depended largely on what size the operators needed. Since then, the containers have been used as snack containers, seating areas, drinks stands and storage rooms.

At the beginning of 2018, there were around 70 containers, now there are almost 100 and the number is growing.

Food of all kinds? You've come to the right place!

If you're hungry and want to go on a culinary journey of discovery, you've come to the right place.

Reffen offers a wide variety of dishes from all over the world: from Greek gyros and Italian parmesan fries to Thai Pad Krapao. You can also find dishes from Nepal, Cambodia, Jamaica, Argentina and many other countries.

And even if you don't have an appetite and just want to have a drink and relax, you can do that too. From Reffen you have a view of the harbor of Copenhagen and you can see the landmark of Copenhagen, the Little Mermaid.

...and how do I get there?

Reffen is located just outside Copenhagen. It takes about 20 minutes by car from the city center, but I can recommend taking the water bus from Knippelsbro station. From there you pass the Nyhavn and Opera House stations and travel through Copenhagen harbor.

Reffen is always open from May to September and is an absolute highlight of any visit to Copenhagen.
